Mount Tarawera is a dormant volcanic rift in the centre of a chain which extends from the volcanoes - Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro on the central plateau, through to White Island in the Bay of Plenty. The violent eruption of Tarawera in 1886 , was one of the most notable events of the 19th century. You will be taken to the summit, where you can enjoy powerful views of the craters and domes formed during this huge eruption.

White Island (or Whakaari) is located 52km off the Bay of Plenty Coastline and is one of the New Zealand’s most active volcanoes and the scenery is lunar-like and truly spectacular. It vents, steaming Crater Lake, bubbling hot streams and desolate mining ruins combined create a surreal experience.
