Solitaire Lodge, 5*

214 Kawaha Point Road, Rotorua

The 5-star Solitaire Lodge is nestled on an exclusive and privately-owned peninsula on the shores of beautiful Lake Tarawera. Although you are only a 25-minute drive from the action and attractions of Rotorua – New Zealand’s favourite tourist destination - you’ll feel simply world’s away from the bustle of the city in this unspoilt natural hideaway.

The land here is virtually untouched by humans. Pristine and lush, its native plants and flowers attract some of New Zealand’s favourite wildlife – such as the protected kereru (native wood pigeon) and the cheeky fantail.

Lake Tarawera is the largest in a series of Lakes which surround the adjacent volcano, Mount Tarawera. This deep, clear Lake is 39 square kilometres in size and just beckons you to explore its waters and shores. Set off in one of our quality kayaks - the water is very calm, and in the shallows the water is so clear you can see right to the bottom. Discover private bays, hot water beaches, magnificently dramatic cliff faces over which tumble forest waterfalls, natural thermal hot springs which invite you to sit and soak, and world-class commercial-free trout fishing.

Venture only a little further from Lake Tarawera to discover that this region is home to more than 10 stunning lakes, along with beautiful clean rivers, stunning waterfalls,  geothermal wonders such as bursting geysers and boiling mud, and all the leisure opportunities that this bounty of nature offers.

Relax by Solitaire's roaring open fire, a glass of Pinot in your hand, as you gaze across the silken surface of Lake Tarawera and up to the magnificently imposing peak of Mount Tarawera. Some choose to sink into one of the comfortable couches with a good book selected from our library, others to indulge in great conversation, reminiscing about the events of another exhaustingly brilliant day on the lake.

The ancient volcano changes colours as the sun sets behind the lodge and all this dramatic stunning scenery is firing up your senses --just in good time, because they are about to be indulged with the finest and freshest cuisine imaginable.

The Lounge offers four luxury suites, features 180 degree views through floor to ceiling windows and is furnished for total relaxation.
